Zwei Studenten und eine Tasse KaffeeThe main objective of this project proposal is to develop a deeper understanding of *metrics, especially in terms of their general significance and their perception amongst stakeholders.

To this end, key considerations will include the quality of *metrics underlying data (in terms of validity and reliability), the historical context within which *metrics arose, as well as their ability to adequately assess scientific outputs against the background of disciplinary specificities.

The project's findings will benefit *metrics users (e.g., researchers, research funders), information services and libraries, as well as *metrics providers, enabling *metrics informed use and widening our knowledge about their limitations and possibilities for interpretation.

KlawiT - classification of scientific Tweets

The project aims to examine, how far social media and short messaging services are used for scientific communication and if a scientific usage can be delimited from non-scientific usage respectively which criteria can be used for this purpose.

The main objective of this project is to answer the question: When is a Tweet scientific?

OA-FWM - Specialized OA workshops and provision of OA materials

The BMBF-funded project "Subject-specific OA workshops and provision of OA materials - OA-FWM" aims in particular to improve subject-specific information and approaches in the field of Open Access. The project is a cooperation between the Communication, Information, Media Center KIM at the University of Konstanz, the Christian-Albrecht-University of Kiel (CAU) and the Lower Saxony State and University Library (SUB Göttingen).

A main goal of the project is to win over researchers as multipliers for the distribution of Open Access. To motivate them, research on gamification is being conducted at CAU in Kiel. The concept of gamification is based on the use of game elements such as points, high scores and the achievement of levels as an incentive system in a non-game context. In addition, subject-specific communities of practice are to be established, which publish new content on the Internet platform in a self-organized manner. These knowledge communities are to be controlled and organized by researchers themselves.

In the work package of the University of Konstanz, the subject-specific information on the information platform open-access.net - probably the best-known resource for information on Open Access in the German-speaking world - will be updated and expanded, and reusable subject-specific materials will be created. In addition, specific workshops will be designed and organized in the context of scientific conferences, in order to subsequently optimize the information platform open-access.net in collaboration with experts and adapt it to the needs of researchers.

In this project, the SUB Göttingen is responsible for the technical support and further development of the platform in order to optimize it in cooperation with experts and to extend those functionalities that were defined in the work packages Gamification and Communities of Practice.
